PhD Scholarships : The COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) The COMSATS Institute of Information

The COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) has embarked upon a Faculty Development Program (FDP) to upgrade the quality of its faculty to meet its continuously growing requirements. So far 30 young faculty members of COMSATS are studying at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in various disciplines and more have secured admission for the upcoming semester.

Under the FDP initiative, fully funded MS leading to PhD scholarships at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA (www.uiuc.edu) are being announced in the following fields:
  • Management Sciences
  • Computer Science Meteorology
  • Bio-Sciences & Bioinformatics
  • Physics/ Nanotechnology
  • Mathematics
  • Electrical / Telecom / Computer Engineering
Young, bright, talented faculty members of all campuses of CIIT are particularly encouraged to apply.

Eligibility Criteria
The aspiring applicants must be Pakistani/AJK nationals and shall meet the following minimum criteria:
  • Sixteen-year earned degree in the relevant subject.
  • Throughout first class academic career.
  • Possess NTS score of 50 or above Maximum age by the closing date of application: 30 years.
  • Persons in receipt of any other CIIT scholarship are NOT eligible to apply.

Application Procedure
  • Apply on the FDP (Faculty Development Program – UIUC Application Form), available on CIIT website link (http://ciit-isb.edu.pk/Servicesandfacilities/JobApplicationForms.aspx) along with non refundable Processing Fee of Rs.500 in the form of pay order/demand draft in favor of CIIT Islamabad from any bank.
  • Attach following documents along with the prescribed application form and pay order/demand draft.
  1. CV/Resume.
  2. Attested photocopy of CNIC.
  3. Attested photocopies of all educational degrees/certificates.
  4. Most recent photograph.
  5. One-page ‘Statement of Purpose’ related to applicant’s objectives/aspirations to pursue higher studies in the particular field.
  6. Brief description of areas of research interests.
  7. NOC from the employer, (for in-service candidates)
  8. The candidate would be required to provide International GMAT/ GRE (General/subject, whichever is applicable) and TOEFL/IELTS Scores as a requirement of admission at UIUC.
  9. In case a candidate is selected, he/she would be required to provide an attested copy of NTS Result Card before joining CIIT as faculty member.
  10. Two letters of reference from academic/ research supervisors.
Terms & Conditions
  • Only the short listed candidates will be called for interview and the final selection will be subject to the approval of the competent fora of CIIT. In all matters, decision of Competent Authority of CIIT will be considered as final and could not be challenged in court.
  • The selected candidates will be offered faculty position on which they would be required to join the CIIT within 15 days of issuance of the offer letter.
  • The faculty members would be required to complete all admission requirements of the scholarship by the notified deadlines.
  • The scholarship award would cover full tuition fee, living allowance and air travel allowance as prescribed by CIIT, from time to time. It will be subject to change as and when necessary. The scholars availing the scholarship would be required to execute a bond to serve CIIT for a specified period after successful completion of studies abroad.
  • The selected scholars are expected to secure admissions and commence studies from Fall 2011 semester.

Application forms, complete in all respects, should reach the office stated below within TWO weeks of the advertisement (~ by October 23, 2010). Incomplete applications will not be entertained.

Do you newspaper journalist? Or work on publishing company or study in publishing? It's good time for you! The Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies is offering a fee-waiver bursary of £1,500 to a full-time or part-time International student on the MA in Publishing, International Publishing, Publishing and Language, Digital Publishing or the European Master in Publishing for the academic year commencing September 2010.

The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of a proven interest in a publishing career, and a considered explanation of what the master’s course will contribute to the student’s learning and career development.

Applicants must already have accepted by the time of application for the scholarship a conditional or unconditional offer of a place at Oxford Brookes to start a course in September 2010. Applicants for the Scholarship must submit by email a cv and a 500-word rationale for their application for the Scholarship. Applicants are also asked to detail any further funding sources they are applying for, and to indicate how they intend to pay for the remainder of their fees and maintenance costs.

The application must be made by email (r.dobrzanski@brookes.ac.uk) to Rosalyn Dobrzanski, Senior Tutor in Publishing, by 30 June 2010. Applicants will be informed by email of the Scholarship Panel’s decision by the 15 July 2010.

Students may apply for this Scholarship alongside other sources of funding (including the John Henry Brookes International Scholarship if applicable), but these must be detailed on the application. The Scholarship will not include a maintenance grant. Applicants who are successful in receiving awards from other sources of funding which cover their tuition fees will not be eligible for the Scholarship, and must inform the Senior Tutor. Eligibility will not be affected by funding covering maintenance costs. The Scholarship cannot be transferred to maintenance costs.
